Nintendo Mario Figures Review
These Mario figures have been a hit since they were released in early 2009. They were sold out on many shelves as soon as they were released. Since then, new lines of Mario figures have been released and have had similar success. With the release of the Mario Galaxy video games it has been awesome to see a resurgence of Mario popularity -- especially with a new generation of young fans. It is nice to see that Mario and company is receiving a proper revival like many of his peers from the 1980's such as Turtles, Transformers, and G.I. Joe. It has been nice to see the two Plumber brothers keep their represented forms. Standard Mario means a nice and round hero, while Luigi is a nice and tall stringbean sidekick.
The sculpt of every figure from this line is very clean cut. There are smooth transitions from gloves to arms, feet to legs, and the same can be said for the whole body. Overall, the basic sculpt is very accurate, posture is good, and a charming facial expression.
There are good and bad parts to the figures when it comes to painting. Some buttons on Mario or Luigi are painted further than they should be and a few other minor areas as well. The eyes are another concern, although they are much improved over most action figures out there for kids. Still --- this is an overall decent job and Mario should be proud.
There are only a couple points of articulation for this line of Mario figures. They swivel at the neck, allowing the head to move around. They also can swivel at the shoulder a full 360 degrees on each arm. The articulation on these figures is purposely limited by the creators to maintain a clean, easy look, while keeping a classic feel. Not bad, for the style of figure that was the goal.
Overall --- these are great figures for those who have always had the Mario cast somewhere in their hearts. Plus, they embrace the new and upcoming fans with a very sentimental and classic look. Although the figures are not tremendously advanced, they are still a great pick up for any Nintendo collector. Kids and fans of Mario are sure to love most all of the characters in this line.
